Output-Design Download

This page allows you to customize your file options. The first option lets you select the sort order of the file. You can sort the file by any field you can search on. The second default sort is by company name.

The next option allows you to select whether or not you would like the field names to be the first record. The field names are just that. The name of every data field. It is a good idea to select "yes" so that you will be able to identify what the data in the fields represents. In addition, most programs will allow you to select the first record as the field names which makes for even easier importing and mapping.

The next option allows you to select your field delimiter. This is the character that will separate the fields of information in the file. The most popular is "comma," but there are other options to choose from. Certain delimiters are more useful than others, depending on what type of program you are importing the data into. Microsoft programs tend to work easiest with "comma."

The next option allows you to select the file type. You can choose between a standard flat text file, .TXT, or a comma separated value file, .CSV. They are very similar, but CSV ignores any previous settings and defaults to comma delimited and field names as first record. The advantage to a CSV file is that most programs, such as Excel, Access, or Word Mail Merge will open them with no special converting or importing. The advantage to a TXT file is they tend to offer the most flexibility. There are few if any programs that can not open a standard text file. Check the program you are importing to to see if it prefers TXT or CSV.

The next choice is a very important decision. The "one record per executive" choice will write one record for every executive (local and parent) within the company. The company information will be the same for every record, and only the executive information will change. The advantage to this method is that you will get every executive, no limit. This is the default recommended choice.

The "one record per company" choice is somewhat different but also has its advantages. This will only write one record per company with the first 10 highest ranking executives within the company, all in that same record. This method can be useful depending on what type of program you are importing the information into. If your program can accept multiple records for one company, then go with the "one record per executive option." Otherwise, choose this "one record per company" option.

The third choice, "one record per company with one executive of your choice" is yet another option which can be very useful depending again on what type of program you are importing the information info. For example, if you use Act! and it is only set up to hold a single contact per company, you may want to consider using this option so you can pick which executive you want. If the executive of you choice is not available for that company, it will provide you with the highest ranking executive.

When complete, press the "Create File" button only once. Please be patient as some large files can take a very long time to build.

Output-Create Download

The link on this page labeled MNInumbers.TXT/CSV is your actual file with the data you have just purchased. The numbers in the file name is your web invoice number. You will want to right click this link with your mouse and choose the "save as" option (this may differ slightly depending on your browser type). Choose a location on your hard drive to save the file. Choose a useful location and be sure to remember where you put it. Depending on the file size and the speed of your internet connection, this could take a while to download.

While downloading, click the link to open the document with the data field descriptions. Although you may have selected the option to have the field names as the first record, you still need to be able to translate those field names into what the fields really are. For example the "COMPNAME" field is really "Company Name" and the "PHYSZIP" field is really the "Physical Address Zip Code." We recommend printing this page.
